This week’s spotlight is on Rachele Downs, Downs Diversity Initiatives/Dominion Real Estate Advisors. Rachele is the Co-Chair for CREW Detroit DEI Committee. With her leadership and dedication, the CREW Detroit DEI committee is dedicated to cultivating meaningful conversations around issues of diversity, equity, and inclusion that will expand members’ understanding and appreciation for all people regardless of their gender, race, ability, sexual orientation, religion, age, socio-economic status or educational attainment.

What character trait do you most admire?
I most admire Tenacity.
Do you have any hidden talents?
I’m a really good cook.
What is the best advice you have ever been given?
Don’t let not knowing stop you. The worst thing you can do is nothing- even if you have no idea what you’re doing, and mess it up, you can usually try again.
What was the biggest thing, business or personal, you accomplished this year?
Who is your favorite Superhero? Why?
Black Panther because the story what Africa could and should have been had it not been colonized.
Is there a charitable cause you support? If so, what makes them so important to you?
There are several- Build Institute, WDET, CREW Foundation, CMU, DSO, ACLU, Team Joseph. Nonprofits do so much of the work that makes good lives possible for people. Build Institute trains and helps launch new business owners, WDET helps create an informed citizenry, CREW Foundation supports young women to pursue exciting careers in CRE, CMU is my alma matter, the DSO has amazing music programs for youth and the community, the ACLU works to support a just society for everyone and Team Joseph funds research and provides family support for people who have children who have Duchenne muscular dystrophy.
