This week’s spotlight is on Betsy Wagner, Vice President with Hobbs + Black Architects. Betsy is the Board Liaison for CREW Detroit’s Membership Committee. With her leadership and years of commitment to CREW, the Membership Committee recruits new members who add value, based on their network, are diverse and are committed to elevating CREW Detroit as a premier professional organization. The team plans and hosts bi-annual prospective member networking events to introduce guests to CREW Detroit and provide an opportunity to network with CREW Detroit’s membership. The Committee is also tasked with maintaining membership data and statistics, coordinating new members applications each month and membership renewal.

Name the app you can’t live without. Why?
Email is the App I cannot function without. I’m completely addicted to my email and would not be able to do the work I need without it.  It is my main source of staying connected to everything.

What character trait do you most admire?
I admire so many traits.  It’s difficult to narrow it down.  However, it’s probably a tie between integrity and empathy.  Integrity because it encompasses truth and perseverance and being someone others can count on.  Empathy, which is how I want to be towards others.
Do you have any hidden talents?
Most people I work with probably don’t know that I was a college tennis player and our team was a top 10 team in the country. We were just inducted to our college’s Hall of Fame last year. It is a sport I’ve dedicated years of my young life to and still love playing.

What is the best advice you have ever been given?
In business, no one is going to make you a priority except yourself. You need to know your limits, do the best you can, but set your own boundaries so you don’t get burned out. Steady as you go.

What was the biggest thing, business or personal, you accomplished this year?
Being nominated to the CREW Detroit Board of Directors was a big deal for me. I’m so honored to serve with so many great people to help advance the roles of women in Commercial Real-estate.

Who is your favorite Superhero? Why?
Honestly-  call me weird but… I don’t have a favorite superhero 😊

Is there a charitable cause you support? If so, what makes them so important to you?
I support a few different charities: The United Way, and Ele’s place and I donate to my church – who in turn, help so many people.  There would probably be a limitless amount of charities I would donate to if I had unlimited resources. Many people are suffering right now and need help and support. Honestly – at the end of the day, the most important thing is that we help and support one another. We are all just human beings trying to get along in this crazy world.

What is the most important thing we should know about you?
I’m certainly not perfect, but I will try with all of my heart to do the best I can, with the skills I have.
