Written by: CREW Detroit
This week’s spotlight is on Whitney Findlay, Owner/Broker Findlay Investments. LLC. Whitney serves as the chair person for the Outreach Committee. The CREW Detroit Outreach Committee extends the mission and vision of CREW Network by inspiring and educating the next generation of female professionals. This is achieved by mentoring and hosting events with our local schools, universities and communities, helping to create an expanded interest in the commercial real estate industry for the next generation. Outreach programs not only provide scholarship and employment opportunities from our chapter membership, but also help create dynamic forums that continue the CREW conversation and the goal of achieving equality in our industry.

Why did you join CREW? And how long have you been in CREW?
I joined CREW in January of 2014.  I joined by recommendation of my boss at the time who encouraged me to expand my professional network and to take advantage of professional development opportunities.

Can you share a #crewsuccess story? Job Opportunity? Project Opportunity?
I have received both job opportunities as well as project opportunities through my CREW network.  I successfully worked as a brokerage independent contractor for a fellow CREW Member and then after ending the project, I in turn contracted the same CREW Member to provide insurance coverage for my next business venture.  My CREW network has proven to be strong with referrals and opportunities I wouldn’t have otherwise encountered.

How have you been involved in CREW? Committees; Board?
2020 - Outreach Committee Chair
2018 - 2019, Board Director
2018 - Chapter Leadership Nominating Committee
2017 - Sponsorship Committee Chair
2016 - Leadership Nominating/Selection Committee
2016 - Impact Committee Member & Co-Chair
2015 - Strategic Plan and Impact Committee Member
2014 - January New Member, joined Impact Committee

How would you describe your leadership style and/or key attributes of your professional strengths?
I would describe my leadership style as transformational and charismatic, sometimes transactional, depending on the situation.
