The annual Impact Awards are designed to recognize projects that have significantly impacted the surrounding community and celebrate premier women in CREW Detroit who are dedicated to elevating the success of others in the commercial real estate (CRE) industry. This year, we had to reimagine what the award ceremony would look like due to COIVD-19 and its impact on our industry. The Impact Awards planning committee got creative and altered what the night looked like while ensuring the focus was still on highlighting our outstanding members and all their accomplishments.

In previous years, the Impact Awards Committee engaged our membership and non-member industry professionals to recognize and award recently completed commercial developments, community projects, professional initiatives and more. This year, CREW Detroit recognized individuals for their outstanding work and industry involvement instead, due to the shut down and project delays amid the pandemic.

The following awards were presented during our annual Impact Awards Reimagined on Sept. 29 at the Birmingham Athletic Club:

Woman of Impact Award: Annette Popiel-Hammerle, director of business development at American Interiors, for her chapter involvement and positive influence within the Detroit chapter.

Member to Member Award: Kelli Herman, director of opportunity creation at Neumann/Smith Architecture, in collaboration with Jennifer Manix, global business development at Knight Watch, for the procurement, design and implementation of Secure24 office space.

Student Award: Suman Gidwani, MBA student at the University of Michigan, Ross School of Business, for her early engagement in the CRE industry and focused efforts on affordable housing.

The annual awards ceremony is planned each year by the Impact Awards committee. Their mission is to successfully plan, implement and promote a premier awards program for our organization. They also coordinate submissions, obtain sponsorships and compose a judge’s panel, which includes a diverse group of real estate professionals.
