This week’s Spotlight is on Jennifer Thomas, Land Development Manager for M/I Home of Michigan, LLC. Jennifer also serves as Board Liaison for CREW Detroit’s Golf Committee. Through her leadership, the CREW golf outing is known for being one of the premier golf outings in our region. The mission of the Golf Committee is to connect the commercial real estate industry through the game of golf. The committee offers participants, sponsors and volunteers a high caliber event, while promoting networking and increasing the visibility of the CREW Detroit brand to non-CREW Detroit members.
Why did you join CREW? And how long have you been in CREW?
I joined CREW after attending a mix and mingle event. As a young professional at the time, I felt it was a great way to get involved in the industry and gain some great friends and mentors along the way. I have been in CREW for 7 years.
What advice would you give a new Member?
Get involved with a committee; it is a great way to meet other members of the organization.
Why is CREW important to you? To your company?
CREW is important to me because it has provided me with opportunities for personal and professional growth, as well as networking opportunities within the industry.
What has CREW done for you? Personally and Professionally?
CREW has provided me with the tools to continually advance myself within the industry as well as provided me with leadership training that has helped achieve success.
Can you share a #crewsuccess story? Job Opportunity? Project Opportunity?
I have many CREW success stories/opportunities that I can share. I have advanced my career through CREW by gaining a job opportunity that took me to the next professional level. There are many projects that I have been a part of which have involved multiple CREW Member companies, one of my favorites is GM World in the RenCen. The best part of CREW is that you can always reach out to find a person or company to help you on a project if needed.
How have you been involved in CREW? Committees; Board?
I have been involved on a committee since I started with CREW. Member for 2 years and Chair of Impact Committee for 2 years (totaling 4 years), Chapter Champion, Member of Professional Development Committee and now Board Liaison for the Golf Committee.
Who was your CREW Sponsor and how did they impact your experience within CREW?
When I joined CREW I did not have a sponsor, however I gained two sponsors through the CREW Xchange program. Eileen McCarthy and Annette Popiel-Hammerle, they brought me into the Professional Development Committee and made me feel part of the organization right away.
How would you describe your leadership style and/or key attributes of your professional strengths?
I would describe my leadership style as focused, organized, and geared toward decisions with results.
