Leadership Spotlight: Mary Anne Wilson – Board Liaison, Member Outreach

Mary Anne Wilson is the Board Liaison for Outreach Committee at CREW Detroit and is Senior Furniture Advisor at CBRE.  After attending multiple CREW Detroit events as a non-member, Mary Anne  joined CREW in 2013 to continue the escalation of her professional skills.

The Outreach Committee is dedicated to creating and sponsoring events that reach the community by focusing on high school mentoring, City of Detroit career development for females, coordinating events at the college and university level and volunteering. The Outreach Committee is responsible for premier CRE inclusive activities  in Metro Detroit. Mary Anne’s leadership helps CREW Detroit elevate and excite young people about the endless opportunities CRE Industry!


Why did you join CREW? And how long have you been in CREW?
I joined CREW in 2013.  I had been going to CREW events and saw what a great organization it is.  I knew to get the most out of it, I should join and get involved in a committee. 

Why is CREW important to you? To your company?CREW plays a significant role in the continuation of escalating my professional skills.  With CBRE as a key sponsor of CREW nationwide, I am honored to uphold that support on a local level.

What has CREW done for you? Personally and Professionally?  CREW has helped me develop business contacts within all disciplines of the CRE industry, deepen my existing business relationships and develop true friendships along the way.

Why should people within the CRE industry join CREW?  Every single CREW event is attended by a wide array of individuals and offers an ongoing source of industry knowledge, current events, ideas and inspiration.

Can you share a #crewsuccess story? Job Opportunity? Project Opportunity?  My whole experience with CREW is a success.   Multiple opportunities have been a direct result of my involvement with CREW.

3 things I wish I had known to elevate my professional career.

  • Your voice has power, don’t doubt yourself.
  • Take risks, don’t wait for tomorrow.
  • Don’t downplay your success.  Give credit to those who deserve it but make sure you claim your credit too.

What advice would you give a new Member?  CREW is filled with the kindest, most compassionate people.  Do not hesitate to ask anyone from CREW for help or advice. 

How have you been involved in with CREW? Committees; Board? I was welcomed with open arms to the Outreach Committee the first year.  I enjoyed the camaraderie of our tight knit group and have been on the Outreach committee ever since.  I also worked with the Golf Committee in 2017.  I am currently serving as the Outreach Board Liaison.

Who was your CREW Sponsor?  Helen Dennis.  During a lunch meeting, she learned about the philanthropic “hobbies” I have and said I’d be a perfect fit for CREW Detroit’s Outreach Committee.
