Let’s talk about Convention!

Experience the power of CREW Network

The CREW Network annual convention and Marketplace will be held in Houston, TX at the Marriott Marquis Houston on October 25 -27, 2017.  This is the best place to really experience the power of CREW Network!  Last year, more than 1,500 members gathered in NYC to celebrate all things CREW – networking, development and inspiration.  Until I attended my first convention and marketplace in Seattle, I didn’t really understand how powerful and important this organization is.  I was inspired by the women that I was able to meet.  It is a great experience to be able to share personal and professional stories and problems.  I have made many new friends at these events and always look forward to seeing them at the next CREW event.   Here is the link to the 2017 CREW Network Convention and Marketplace webpage- https://crewnetwork.org/events/conventions/2017-crew-network-convention-and-marketplace.

In the ladies room in Seattle, I ran into Laurie Baker, CREW Network Immediate Past President.  First and most importantly, she is about the nicest person that I ever met.  I told her that my involvement in CREW would tell the story of opportunities and the importance of women in the workplace to my daughter.  Laurie kindly corrected me by reminding me that this is an important lesson for my son, too.  That conversation that day really expanded my horizons and inspired my leadership both at my workplace and within CREW.

I would strongly encourage all members to attend the convention to really experience the power of the network.  The speakers planned include Dr. Travis Bradberry, author of Emotional Intelligence 2.0, Ashwin Karuhatty, Business Leader of Alexa Smart Properties (he may be my new personal hero), and Geena Davis.  There are many other speakers and events planned for the convention.

Are you interested in attending the CREW Network Convention and Marketplace, but not sure how to convince your boss to fund the trip?  Here are some simple steps you can take to help you prepare your request:

Step 1: Familiarize yourself with the agenda and speakers.
Step 2: Create a sample agenda with a list of sessions and networking events you’d like to attend.
Step 3: Outline your top three reasons for attending.
Step 4: Send a formal request via email/letter to your boss. Here’s a request letter template to get you started.

CREW Detroit will be offering registration scholarships to our members.  All members who have made donations to CREW Foundation and have not received any CREW Detroit scholarships in the 12 months prior to the convention are eligible.  Scholarship recipients are required to write an essay about their experience at convention to have their expenses reimbursed.
