Where Did the Year Go?

I am sure I’m not alone when I look back at 2014 and cannot believe how fast this entire year has flown by. It has been an honor and a privilege to serve as your
Chapter President in 2014. Our chapter celebrated numerous successes this year, which I’m very proud of, although the credit does not belong to me. It belongs to our members who made it all happen. I feel fortunate for having been a part of their success.

I joined CREW Detroit about 7 years ago. The first event I attended was the New Member Breakfast where I heard Cathy LaMont, First American Title Insurance Company (Cathy is a Past President of CREW Detroit), speak about how much business she had done within CREW and how many friends she also made through the organization. I remember thinking, ‘Yeah RIGHT, this is a business organization. I’m not going to make friends here.’ Well, I was wrong!

I first joined the Membership Committee where I met several women I had not known. Getting to know these professionals in a smaller group setting helped to make the larger events not as intimidating. I also joined Outreach, thus expanding my network even further. I had an opportunity to serve as a Board Director/Liaison to GOLF.

It took me about 3 years of involvement before I landed my first business deal as a result of my expanded network. Since then, I have worked on about 50 projects as a direct result of my involvement and sponsorship in CREW Detroit.

The other major benefit is number of good friends whose company and counsel I now enjoy.

I have received so much from CREW Detroit it has been a blessing in my life. I truly hope that all of you are having similar positive experiences with your involvement in CREW Detroit. I will remain on the Board for one more year as the Immediate Past President but plan to stay active in the Chapter.

I am so excited to hand over the leadership baton to one of my dear friends, Sheila Suppes, Sachse Construction. Sheila will begin her term as Chapter President in January. For those of you who don’t know her, Sheila is a business development powerhouse with an unbelievable work ethic and an exciting vision for our Chapter, which will be in very good hands with her at the helm. Sheila has been an active member of CREW Detroit since 2008 and she will be a terrific leader.
