In my first monthly message, I want each of you to know how humbled, yet honored and enthused I am to serve as your 2013 CREW Detroit President. Thank you for this once-in-a-lifetime opportunity!
We had an exciting 2012 under our then President, Jan Purcell – our membership increased, our new Professional Development Committee was set in motion, we raised more money than in past years, our Golf outing was a sell out and our Impact Awards luncheon was busting at the seams. These successes were the result of our previous board’s dedication and each committee’s hard work.
So where do we go from here? For me, the answer is simple – we raise the bar and reach even higher! Once a challenge is overcome and you taste achievement, you develop an addiction and want more. You realize that with a strategic plan, focused energy, and inclusion of all involved, anything is possible. We should never limit ourselves to what we think we can do but believe that we can go as far as our aspirations and dreams.
I have two primary goals for 2013. The first is to allow more members of the organization an opportunity to lead and showcase their talent, and to provide more occasions for members to be visible for their hard work, especially at the committee level. I believe we have many unsung heroes in the organization that should be recognized whenever possible. I encourage the Board of Directors, especially the Executive Steering Committee, to get to know those committee members who are making a difference and not asking for anything in return. During December 2012, I personally attended several committee meetings and was amazed at the dedication and commitment evidenced at that level.
My second goal is to raise the bar on the services we provide our members. I believe our members are seeking experiences that not only educate but challenge, allowing them to expand their skills and grow professionally while developing a network and support system that helps them meet their goals. This can be done through many different avenues – programs and events, our upcoming Leadership Development series, and mentorship. It is incumbent upon us “seasoned” professionals to give back professionally, and what better way to do that than within our Chapter organization.
I do have a request for each member – please reach out to me and tell me how we can best meet your expectations. Don’t be shy about this. Be bold! Those who succeed in life are the ones who know what they want and are not afraid to go after it. I welcome any opportunity to listen as we continue building a chapter that will best serve the needs and aspirations of its members.
